About the PIRLS 2021 Insights Series

The PIRLS Insights series explores specific educational research topics using PIRLS data. Publications in this series use both reading achievement and contextual data to take a closer look at particular areas of research interest. PIRLS Insights provide more in-depth information about the available data, mainly focusing on the most recent database. The Insights reports explore complex relationships among different variables in PIRLS, extending beyond what is presented in the International Results in Reading.

Publications in the PIRLS Insights series will be released on a rolling basis. PIRLS Insights publications are currently planned for the following topics:

Aspects of Student Well-Being and Reading Achievement in PIRLS 2021

This report explores relationships between fourth-grade students’ reading achievement and certain factors related to their subjective well-being.

COVID-19 Research Resources in PIRLS 2021

This guide for researchers describes how the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 impacted PIRLS 2021 and outlines the contextual data related to COVID-19 collected in the study.
